The More You Know: SAM Exclusion Records

Exclusion Records list those parties barred from receiving certain federal contracts, subcontracts, and financial and non-financial assistance and benefits. The System for Award Management (SAM–sam.gov) provides a searchable database that is used by federal grant reviewers to determine whether the individuals listed on an application are eligible to receive funding. Should NIH or another federal agency identify a potentially problematic entry, they will forward a form letter to the OSP email address. This information is then sent to the department for review and response. Should the department determine that the individual listed in the Exclusion Records and the individual listed in the application are different people, they should draft a response and route it back through to OSP, who will then respond to the agency inquiry.
