How to Request an NIH Awarding Component or Study Section

Those applicants wishing to request a particular awarding component (NIH Institute or Center) or study section should complete the PHS Assignment Request Form. Requests should not be included in the cover letter. To include this form in an application, department administrators should select “Grants.gov” from the “Action” menu. Verify that the “PHS Assignment Request Form” selection is checked. This will allow the form to be populated from the Coeus Questionnaire. This form is not part of the assembled application and will not be made available to program staff or reviewers; however, it will be used to convey additional information regarding assignment and review preferences. Each request is limited to three preferences under the following categories: Assign to Awarding Component Do Not Assign to Awarding Component Assign to Study Section Do Not Assign to Study Section Applicants can also list any individuals who should not review the application (limited to 1,000 characters), as well as any scientific areas of expertise required
