Spotlight On: R21s

The R21 activity code represents support for exploratory or developmental research that is considered high-risk, high-reward. These awards fund the early or conceptual stages of project development and last up to two years. R21 projects are distinct from those that would be traditionally funded by R01s and are typically lower in budget (cannot exceed $275,000 in direct costs with no more than $200,000 direct costs in a single budget period). R21s cannot be renewed.

Please note that the application due date for new R21s is February 16.
